The UK Student Visa (previously known as the Tier 4 visa) allows international students to come to the UK to study at UK Visas and Immigration-approved educational institutions. Our student visa solicitors in Bolton help applicants from across Greater Manchester and the wider UK with their student visa applications.
Who Needs a Student Visa?
You need a Student Visa if you are a national of a country that requires a visa to enter the UK and you wish to study a course that lasts longer than 6 months. Short courses under 6 months may be covered by a Standard Visitor Visa.
Student Visa Requirements
Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS)
You must have a valid CAS number from a licensed student sponsor (the educational institution). Your institution will issue this once you have a confirmed, unconditional offer and have met any conditions.
Financial Requirements
You must demonstrate that you can pay your course fees and living costs for the duration of your studies. The required amounts depend on your course fees and the location of your institution.
English Language Requirement
You must demonstrate English language proficiency. For most university courses, this is CEFR level B2, demonstrated via an approved SELT such as IELTS for UKVI.
ATAS Certificate
Students from certain countries studying certain sensitive subjects at postgraduate level must obtain an Academic Technology Approval Scheme (ATAS) certificate before applying for their visa.
Graduate Visa
After completing a qualifying degree-level course in the UK, students may be eligible for the Graduate Visa, which allows them to work in the UK for 2 years (3 years for PhD graduates) without a sponsor. This provides a valuable pathway to securing skilled work and subsequently applying for a Skilled Worker visa.
Student Visa Refusals
Student visa refusals are common and can be devastating for applicants who have already made significant commitments to their studies. Our team can review your refusal, advise on whether Administrative Review or a fresh application is appropriate, and help ensure your next application succeeds.
